Dewayne Patterson, 1988 graduate of Plainview High School, led a legendary 34-year career in newspaper journalism, often giving time, attention, and coverage to high school sports, coaches, and athletes.
He began his full-time newspaper career at the Weekly Post in 1990. He soon became sports editor and later managing editor, mixing sports and news coverage. In 2007, he was hired as a news reporter for the Jackson County Sentinel, where he covered news and Friday night football through the 2002 season.
He became the Sentinel’s managing editor in 2013 and publisher in 2019. During his career, the paper received close to 100 awards from the Alabama Press Association and the Alabama Managing Editors Association Editorial and Advertising Awards. Patterson retired in 2023.
