Mickey Willingham, a 1980 graduate of Plainview High School, was a star on the football, basketball, and baseball teams. He was named to the football all-county and all-area teams in 1979. He also made all-county, all-area, all-state, and the Birmingham Post-Herald all-state football teams in 1980. He was named 1980 All-County and All-Area MVP.
In basketball, Willingham made All-County and All-State three years in a row, from 1978-1980. He also made All-Area in 1979 and 1980. He was selected for the 1979 All-Sand Mountain and All-County tournament teams in 1979 and 1980, as well as the Birmingham Post-Herald and Alabama High School All-Star games in 1980. He was also a leader on the 1978 and 1979 Plainview basketball teams that finished second in the state two seasons in a row.
In baseball, Willingham made the 1979 and 1980 all-county and 1980 all-state teams. After high school, Willingham continued his basketball career at Snead State Community College.
