A three-sport star at Fyffe High School, Godwin earned all-state honors in basketball and volleyball. She excelled in basketball, scoring 2298 points in her career and was a member of the 1986 state championship team. Godwin continued her career at Snead State College where she became the leading scorer in the school’s history. In 1992, she was named Alabama junior college Player of the Year, and All-American. She was also named the top athlete in Alabama junior college athletics. Godwin concluded her career at Jacksonville State University where she became the first female athlete to ear letters in three sports.
